PT JIEP Supports Clean and Healthy Living Initiative in Jakarta

PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung (Perseroda) collaborates with Jakarta Provincial Government to implement the Stop Open Defecation (BABS) program.

"...by building communal septic tanks based on appropriate biogas technology,"

One of the initiatives is the construction of communal septic tanks using appropriate biogas technology at Rusunami Bidara Cina.

PT JIEP President Director Satrio Witjaksono said the construction of these communal septic tanks is part of efforts to support the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), including in East Jakarta.

According to data on open defecation issues in East Jakarta, people access to proper toilets reaches 90.52 percent. This indicates the need for further interventions to completely eliminate open defecation through a more systematic and sustainable approach.

"Rusunami Bidara Cina is one of the areas in East Jakarta that requires direct intervention because the waste disposal channels do not lead to septic tanks but flow into drains that end up in the Ciliwung River," he asserted, Friday (8/1).

He explained that this condition is closely related to public health issues, particularly the high incidence of environment-based diseases. Therefore, PT JIEP, as one of Jakarta's Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), strives to actively play a role in addressing open defecation problems in Jakarta through the Company's Social and Environmental Responsibility Program (TJSL).

"PT JIEP provides a real solution to 688 households or about 2,064 residents at Rusunami Bidara Cina by building communal septic tanks based on appropriate biogas technology to improve healthy living quality and provide sustainable benefits," he added.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung directly supported and appreciated the collaboration between PT JIEP and East Jakarta City Government in providing biogas septic tanks for residents at Rusunami Bidara Cina.

Pramono mentioned that the open defecation issue is indeed a concern because it is a basic need in society.

"We greatly appreciate all parties supporting and taking the initiative to utilize biogas technology, which not only solves sanitation problems but also produces alternative energy beneficial to the community. Collaboration between the government and private sector like this is vital in realizing a healthier and more sustainable Jakarta towards a Global City,” he said.
